Introduction:

Orange launched the UK's first Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 1.1
handset, (the Nokia 7110e) in November 1999 enabling Orange customers to
access the Orange range of multi media services, as well as a multitude
of internet content written especially for WAP. There is now a range of
WAP handsets, available from "free" and upwards,
and WAP is now available to prepay customers.
What is WAP?
Wireless Application Protocol is the de facto world-wide standard for
delivering internet type content to digital mobile phones and other wireless
devices. It is pronounced WAP, as in "tap",
not "top". :-)
