On 8th September 2003 Sony Ericsson issued the following product
recall:
CST-13 phone charger
Sony Ericsson has identified a fault in a small number of its UK
3-pin CST-13 phone chargers and, as a precautionary messure, has activated
a process to have all potentially failing units returned. The charger is
manufactured in Thailand by Delta, an external supplier, and has the identification
number BML162099/3R1A printed on the socket face, along with "made in Thailand
by Delta". The charger has been included with the following Sony Ericsson
Phone Models: T68i, T300, T310, T610 and the Bluetooth handsfree accessories
HBH-30, HBH-60 and HBH-65. It has also been sold separately as an accessory.
At this stage we believe that the problem is limited to chargers sold in
the UK only.
There has been a limited number of incidents in the UK, where a pressure
build-up in the charger has caused the top plastic part of the charger
to break off, with the danger of hitting someone. If the charger does break
apart, the electronics of the charger may be exposed thereby creating a
risk of giving a person touching these parts an electric shock. In such
circumstance, there could also be a risk of fire, if the charger is in
proximity of flammable material.
Consumers who possess this chargers should stop using it immediately,
remove it from the socket and contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre.
A free replacement charger will be dispatched, together with a pre-paid
envelope for the user to return the charger to Sony Ericsson for inspection.
At Sony Ericsson, product quality and safety is of the highest priority
and we would like to offer our sincere apologies to all customers for any
inconvenience caused.
